THE INFLUENCE OF INTRA-GROUP COMMUNICATION ON THE RESIDENTS' SENSE OF COMMUNITY IN THE DEMOLITION AND RESETTLEMENT COMMUNITY AROUND DEVELOPMENT ZONE: A CASE STUDY ON X COMMUNITY AROUND KUNSHAN ECONOMIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT ZONE

Abstract：Newly-built demolition and resettlement communities around the development zones mainly inhabit local landless farmers and migrant workers. They all urgently need to establish sense of community to adapt to the great changes on their production method and life style. Based on the investigation on residents in the X community around Kunshan Economic and Technological Development Zone, this paper mainly discussed the influence of intra-group communication on residents' sense of community. It shows that most residents around the development zone indeed have the tendency of intra-group communication, and their sense of community are generally at a low level. The results of multiple regression analysis proved that the intragroup communication tendency have a negative impact on the residents' sense of community, and the negative impact on the migrant residents is more significant. Due to the complex conflict caused by the land expropriation and demolition, local residents' intra-group communication also has a negative impact on their sense of community, while the intra-group communication of the migrant residents helps them adapt to the challenges of the new place and thus has a positive impact on their sense of community.
